Cal was glad he could finally got himself registered into the National Do Not Call Registry, the FTC's program against annoying telemarketers.
His wife, Lucette, however, had a different point of view. Staring at her husband lying on the couch at 6 p.m., she said, "At least when they called he had to lift his hand to answer the phone. Now he just sits there, a true sedentary log."
Kat Thurrenssen, A Spokesperson for the National Telemarketers' Assn., apparently trying to capitalize on Lucette's newfound chagrin, used the implication of her words to attack the FTC's program. "You see? Before this crazy Do Not Call the consumer scheme, citizens' health were being protected and even maintained, at least in part, by telemarketers. Now what we have is a catastrophe of unmovable couch potatoes, even more zombified than before. Don't say we didn't warn you." Thurrenssen urged citizens to reconsider registering themselves to the program, and promised to file for an abolishment of the program, as soon as he gets off the next call.
