John headed over to Dave's Butcher Shop. Hunger seared into his mind like a branding iron on a calf in a Texas calving season. Entering, he realized he didn't have enough to get his slab of beef. But he figured he knew how to work the system.
"Dave, are you a betting man?" he asked.
"I'll take a couple of bets. Why do you ask?" came the reply from the butcher.
"See those steaks hanging from the hooks above you? Well, I'll bet you $500 that you can't reach 'em."
"Well, that's one bet I won't take," responded the butcher.
"Why not?"
"The steaks are too high."
