One day in 1962, Casey Stengle is conducting practice with his hapless New York Mets. All of a sudden, a horse trots up to him and says, "Excuse me, Mr. Stengle, but I'd like to try out for the Mets."

Casey figures he has nothing to lose, so he says, "O.k., I'll give you a tryout. Can you hit?"

The horse replies, "Sure I can hit." So the horse trots over to the bat rack, picks up a bat in his teeth, and trots over to the batter's box. Casey throws him a few pitches, and the horse hits each one over the fence for a home run.

Casey is amazed. He calls the horse over and says, "That was great! You can definitely hit! Can you field?"

The horse says "Sure I can field." So the horse trots out to the outfield, and Casey hits him a few fly balls. The horse catches each of them in his teeth, drops them down to the grass, and kicks them back to Casey.

Once again, Casey is amazed. He calls the horse over and says "This is amazing! I've never seen anything like it! You can hit, you can field...just one more thing: can you run?"

The horse looks at Casey and says: "Run? If I could run would I be HERE?"
